The Nassau County Poet Laureate Society awarded Ana Ramirez a $500 Scholarship on June 14, 2023. Nassau County Poet Laureate Paula Curci presented the award at the Long Beach Public Library.

Ana is a student at Long Beach High School who is scheduled to graduate from Long Beach High School in June of 2024. She moved to the United States in 2018, from Costa Rica. While in Middle School she applied to the Talented Writers program at Long Beach High School, where she was interviewed and accepted. The program teaches students, through weekly assignments, about creative themes and structures.

Ana is a winner of a national gold medal, three gold keys, a silver key, and two honoring mentions from Scholastics Arts and Writing and she is Columbia Gold Circle Certificate of Mer. She is published in DePaul’s Blue Book that features the best writing from high school students in the United States. As a writer Ana shows concern for her community, this is why she writes her poems in both English and Spanish. Furthermore, Ana is a Herstory writing workshop participant and currently, Ana, holds a yearly internship position at the Long Beach Latino Civic Association.

Ana is invited to read at the Teen Stage at the Word Festival: A Festival of the Spoken and Written Word: Celebrating All Voices, on October 14th, in Oceanside NY at the Schoolhouse Green. She will also have one of her submitted poems published in the Nassau County Poet Laureate Society’s Review, Vol. X, 2023, and she will be invited to recite at the launch of the Review in November of 2023.
