The Nassau County Poet Laureate Society awarded Emily Feil a $500 Scholarship on June 14, 2023. Nassau County Poet Laureate Paula Curci presented the award at the Long Beach Public Library.

Emily is a student at Long Beach High School who is scheduled to graduate from Long Beach High School in June of 2024. Emily is the editor of the Long Beach High School’s award winning school newspaper, The Tide. She has been a staff writer for some time, covering arts and entertainment reviews along with other topics. As a member of the prestigious Talented Writing program at Long Beach High School, Emily is the editor of Fragments, their literary magazine. Fragments highlights the poetry written by students from Long Beach High School’s talented writers’ program. In 2023, The National Council of Teachers of English’s REALM contest awarded the literary magazine Fragments, with its First Class, the highest honor.

Emily has won two silver key awards from the Scholastic Art and Writing, as well as three honorable mentions. Emily is invited to feature on the Teen Stage at the Word Festival: A Festival of the Spoken and Written Word: Celebrating All Voices, on October 14th, at the Schoolhouse Green in Oceanside NY. Emily will have one of her submitted poems published in our Nassau County Poet Laureate Society’s Review, Vol. X, 2023, and she will be invited to the Review’s book launch, to read her poetry, in November 2023.
