The Nassau County Poet Laureate Society awarded Gabriel Wagner a $500 scholarship on May 31, 2018. Peter V. Dugan presented the award to Gabriel.

The English teachers nominated Gabe with much ease as he has made his mark on the English department. His ninth grade teacher, Ms. Cestaro says of Gabe, “In addition to being a skilled writer, poet and public speaker, what I remember most about him is his wit, humor and sarcasm and how he was able to incorporate that into his writing. Everything he wrote always represented his distinct and honest voice.”

His AP Literature teacher, Mr. Elias had this to say about Gabe: “To say Gabe loves poetry and literature would be an understatement of epic proportions. Gabe notices our discussions leaning in the direction of the romantics or realists, and he arms himself for academic artistry with his depth of knowledge from the worlds of mythology, history and the trope kingdom. His awareness of allusions to the gods and to the giants of all-times is unparalleled, as is his awareness of the importance of the emotions engendered by them. Gabe is never Icarus and always Apollo.”

Gabe is also known to other English teachers through his participation in Model United Nations during which he played an instrumental role in the club’s “Rock Out For Diplomacy” fund raiser.

Congratulations to Gabriel Wagner on this achievement.
