The Nassau County Poet Laureate Society awarded Osama Teepu, Wantagh High School senior, a $300 scholarship award on May 31, 2016 at Wantagh High School. President Paula Camacho discussed the mission of the Nassau County Poet Laureate Society and introduced NCPL Lorraine LoFrese Conlin who presented the award to Osama for excellence in writing.

The report from the school states: “Osama thinks deeply and analytically about literature. Insights and questions came to him in the middle of class discussion… Osama is always willing and enthusiastic. Those qualities, coupled with his intelligence will serve him well in college…Osama enjoyed being a participant in class discussions. Osama’s knowledge was deep and obviously does enormous amount of reading on his own time. Furthermore, his writing was concise and effective…Osama enjoyed a variety of topics throughout the year and he contributed greatly. I always noticed his concern for humanity in the topics we studied. His grades reflected his interest, maintaining a solid A average for the year. Osama’s personal qualities are also outstanding. Mr. Teepu has a quiet confidence to him. This characteristic adds to his sincere demeanor. Mature, reliable and well mannered, Osama was a great student.
